Camp Work Weekend

It’s that time of year…. We are setting up camp and we are going to need your help. Work Weekend will be May 19th and 20th. We hope to get the Tents up, cabins cleaned, Dining Hall set up, Rec. Hall cleaned out, fire pits remade, racking the units, brushing off the cabin roofs and other things that will help get camp ready for summer. This is to provide the staff during staff training time to concentrate on how to make camp better for campers and not necessarily cleaning it up.

We will begin working at 9:00am and finish up around 5:00pm. Lunch will be provided both days. (And if we get the kitchen up and ready there maybe coffee) Any amount of time you can donate will be greatly appreciated. As you know it takes everyone’s help to get the camp ready.

If you have any questions, please let me know at scotte@ymcainnewton.org I want to thank you in advance for your time and remember Camp Frank A. Day is “a great place to grow”. So, lets plant the seeds this spring and help others enjoy the fruit of labor this summer.

Camp Day Music

For many years we had our very own Camp Day Idol name Mark Goldshmit, affectionately called Goldie. He sang during Color War, Awards nights or pretty much any other time there was a camp fire. His music was the highly of camp for many generations of camper.

A couple of years ago Goldie recorded some of those songs and made a CD. He also teamed up with some campers to sign our camp song and Children, a camp favorite. I've held on to my CD and even used it in some of the podcasts I did last year.

Today I upload all of his songs on to the site imeem and added them to the site so you all can enjoy them. Thanks Goldie for all those times you sang to us!

I added the player to the side bar as well. I don't know all the names of these songs so if someone leaves me them I can update the playlist. Enjoy!

Best of all camps?

We here at Camp Day like to think we have one of the very best sleepaway camps in the county. Its even part of our camp song.
On the shores of Quacumquasit, deep among the pines
Stands a camp in all its glory, foremost of its kind
Cheers for Camp Day, cheers for Camp Day
Hail to green and gray
Hail to thee o' best of all camps
Hail to Frank A. Day.
Like many people who went to Camp Day I grew up there and absolutely loved every minuet spent "deep among the pines." It is one of my most favorite places to visit and going back always makes me feel like I've come home.

But truth be told its not about what we think its about what you think. So if you are wondering what people are saying about our camp then check out Frank A. Day's rating on www.campratingz.com

If you have attended camp before and would like to let people know what you thought, you can:

Frank A. Day Camp Map

Yesterday Google added a new feature that lets any one easily create custom a map using a Google Maps. So I took some time and created a Camp Map (2 pages).

For those of you new to camp it will give you an idea of where all the important buildings are located. For anyone who has been to camp before, let me know if I missed anything.

You can also add photos which I will do at a later date.

If you have Google Earth you can view the map here and here.

Favorite memories.

What's your favorite memory?

Looking for someone?

Want to get in touch with other people who went to camp day? Well we have a group on facebook. so far we there are 161 members but I know there are a lot more of you out there.

Someone asked about putting up email lists. I'm not going to do that because thats one way spammers can get email address. I also don't want to put up someones email if they don't want to. So again the best thing to do for now is join Facebook.

I have herd about a site that allows anyone to create there own social network type site. We could have one just for camp day. I don't know if anyone is interested. If so let me know.

Frappr Group

So one of the great things about Camp Day is that we get people from all over the world. (I see many of our international friends have been visiting the site, welcome.) Last year or the year before, I found this cool site that let you add your photo to a map of the world. In case you missed it you can join the group at www.frappr.com/campday/
